VIR: VisANT Interaction Ratio

VIR represents the average number of interactions per gene in our database. Please reference following publication for its potential usage:

Shared Molecular and Functional Frameworks among Five Complex Human Disorders: A Comparative Study on Interactomes Linked to Susceptibility Genes

Note: VIR is not the nodes' average degree in the interactome of a given species because the counting of interaction is method based: if protein A interactions protein B while protein A also binds gene B, then VIR counts two interactions between node A and B. In addition, VIR also does not filter out the self-regulations.
